FARM STREAM
Farm Stream
The Alberta Farm Stream represents one of the immigration pathways within the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP), which falls under the category of Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP) overseen by the province of Alberta. This specific stream is strategically aimed at individuals with substantial experience in farm ownership and operation, who have the intention of acquiring and managing a farm within the province of Alberta.
Applicants who receive a favorable nomination through the Alberta Farm Stream will receive an invitation to formally apply for Canadian permanent residence. It is important to note that this program necessitates the submission of a meticulously customized application, contingent on the specific nature of the agricultural enterprise an individual intends to establish in the province of Alberta.
The Alberta Farm Stream operates through collaborative management between the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) and Alberta Agriculture and Forestry (AAF). Consequently, prospective candidates will be mandated to engage in consultations with both entities before finalizing their application submission.

Applicants are obligated to substantiate their possession of the financial resources necessary for the establishment of a sustainable farming enterprise. To verify this financial capability, candidates must furnish financial documents that confirm a minimum net worth of at least $500,000 CAD or provide evidence of access to these funds through alternate sources.
It is essential to note that the stipulated minimum investment amount is $500,000 CAD. Alberta retains the discretion to request that applicants demonstrate the ability to invest an amount exceeding this minimum.

This business plan must delineate how the applicant intends to allocate their investments. Priority in the evaluation of applications will be granted to those presenting the most promising prospects for growth aligned with Alberta’s agri-food sector requirements.
Application Procedure
The Alberta Farm Stream maintains an ongoing acceptance of new applications. Eligible candidates have the liberty to submit their applications at any juncture, and the processing of these applications adheres to a “first-come, first-served” protocol. Candidates expressing an interest in applying are advised to initiate contact with the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) and Alberta Agriculture and Forestry (AAF) prior to the commencement of their application preparation. Furthermore, candidates must undergo an evaluation by Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development before they become eligible to formally submit an application.
Considering that the application necessitates applicants to furnish substantiation of their comprehensive research into the farming environment within Alberta and Canada, candidates may find it beneficial to arrange an exploratory visit to Alberta before embarking on the application submission process.
Candidates who aspire to participate in this stream are mandated to prepare a comprehensive paper-based application. All pertinent documents must be meticulously assembled in hard copy and enclosed within a singular envelope. The submission should be dispatched by mail to the office of Alberta Agriculture and Forestry (AAF), rather than the AINP office. The application entails a substantial compilation of documents, including forms that validate the applicant’s adherence to the stream’s stipulated requirements. Documentation affirming the applicant’s farm management expertise, financial resources, and proposed business plan are essential components of the application. Once AAF grants approval for the application, it will be forwarded to AINP for further evaluation.
In the event of the application receiving approval from AINP, the applicant will be officially informed of their selection for provincial nomination by Alberta. Successful applicants will receive an official nomination package through mail from AINP.
Upon obtaining a provincial nomination, applicants are afforded a timeframe of six months within which to submit a federal application for Canadian permanent residence. Those enrolled in this program must undertake the completion and submission of a paper-based permanent residence application, sent via mail to the appropriate application center. Paper-based PNP applications for permanent residence generally undergo processing within a span of 18 months.
